OPACE Clinical Trial Website

Challenge: The Cambridge Clinical Trials Unit needed a dedicated website for the OPACE COPD clinical trial that could serve two very different audiences simultaneously. Patients needed to understand what the trial involved, whether they might be eligible, and what participation would mean for them — all presented in plain, reassuring language. Healthcare professionals, meanwhile, needed access to detailed study information, documentation, and referral pathways. The site also had to reflect the credibility of the institutions behind the trial, including the University of Cambridge and NHS Cambridge University Hospitals.

Solution: We designed and built a bespoke WordPress website with carefully structured content tailored to each audience. The site features a modern, clean design with subtle animations that keep the experience engaging without overwhelming users dealing with sensitive health information. Separate sections guide patients and clinicians to the information most relevant to them, with clear calls to action for trial enrolment and professional enquiries. The fully responsive design ensures the site works seamlessly on mobile devices — important for patients who may be browsing from a hospital or GP waiting room.

Results: The website provides a trusted, professional online presence for the OPACE trial, helping to connect eligible COPD patients with potentially life-changing research. It has streamlined the process of communicating trial information to both patients and referring clinicians, reducing the burden on the research team while ensuring key messages are delivered consistently and clearly.

This project is part of our ongoing work with medical and research organisations in Cambridge, and we are proud to support the Clinical Trials Unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital in their important work advancing treatments for respiratory disease.
